Family
Family is a unit where people love and help each other. It can be formed by blood but it doesn’t have to be, a chosen family is as much of a family as a biological one. Friend groups and all kinds of relationships that include two or more people are welcome here, as well as couples and single parents with their children!
I want to see and celebrate your love, your unique family. I’ll ask you how you like to spend time together and we’ll do just that – it might be a trip to the woods, hanging out at home or something completely different! I will capture the love and affection that you have for each other and the special relationships inside your family. Instead of posing you stiffly, I give you loose instructions and let you move and live as you do.

birth photography in Turku
Birth is always a once in a lifetime experience for the whole family. Photos of that will give you everlasting memories but also help you process the whole experience afterwards. You’ll be getting images of the seconds you meet your child for the first time, as well as everything from the early moments of labour to the first hour or so you spend with your baby.
No matter what package you’ll choose, we’ll meet beforehand – I won’t walk into your delivery as a total stranger. In our meeting we’ll discuss your wishes and fears, what you want me to document and if you want me to leave something out. We’ll also go through all the what if -situations we can think of, so that during your labour I won’t have to disturb you with any questions. During the labour I will document everything you want me to, but stay out of the way and let you concentrate in your own bubble.

Every package includes a meeting (can be combined with the pregnancy shoot) and three weeks on call around your due date. During that time I won’t book new shoots that I can’t easily reschedule (I will inform you about possible existing wedding bookings before you book!) and won’t leave town.
If you’re going to give birth in the hospital, there will be no travel expenses. If you’re having a home birth, there might be additional costs if I have to take a taxi to get there in time!

FAQ
What is birth photography?
It’s all about documenting the moments before, during and after your child is born. No matter how this baby comes to you, it’ll be a day that you’ll want to have captured. Having photographs of the moment you meet one of your most important people for the first time is priceless. You won’t regret having these photos and later, as an adult, your child will be grateful for them as well.
Where do you do birth photography?
I work in the Turku area. I live just 20 minute walk or 6 minute drive away from the TYKS labor ward. If you’re having a home birth, I’ll have to be able to walk, take a taxi or walk to you
How does it work?
I meet or talk on the phone with all clients to discuss their birth plan and wishes for the photos. We decide the time you will call me, and how you keep me updated in the days and weeks before the labour. Once the labour starts, you update me and we keep in contact until you tell me it’s time to come to you. I stay 1-2 hours after birth. This allows enough time for for example photos of nursing and the rest of the family meeting the new baby.
How many images can I expect, and what is the best thing to do with them?
The final amount depends on many things, but you can expect around 150-200. The images are going to capture your story, everything you want included, the details and your first moments with your child. I can help you to design a beautiful album or wall art with your photos!
I want it to be very dark during birth, how will you take pictures in the dark?
I’ve worked with everything from just a few candles to all kinds of light situations. I have gear that works in low light, but the more light we have, the clearer pictures you’ll get.
Will my birth photos be in colour, or black and white, or both?
I do both versions of every single photo. For most it’s easier to look at black and white birth photography, but I also love the colours.
What if you miss a birth, get sick or have an emergency?
If I was sick or had an emergency, I’d ask my partner Tinksu to attend the birth. If both of us got sick before your due date, I’d try my best to find a colleague to fill in!
What if the baby comes fast?
Good communication is key! Contacting me at the first signs of labour helps me to be ready to travel there fast if needed.
What happens if you miss a birth?
If the baby happens to come so fast that I miss it, I can still come to your place of birth and take photos of your first moments together, if you want me to. I obviously won’t charge the whole amount, this is better explained in the contract.
